When the Turkish teaching activities carried out both in domestic and abroad are considered together, it is seen that a substantial amount of people learn Turkish as a foreign language. The width of the geography where the language is taught and the size of the target audience, the curriculum for teaching Turkish, language teaching set, course material, dictionary, audio-visual tools, field expert lecturer, researching the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject, etc. It brings with it many requirements. It can be said that especially the requirements for teaching Turkish abroad are higher.
It is seen that the discipline of Teaching Turkish to Foreigners, which can be considered as a new field of science, has just reached the academic competence that will form the basis for the aforementioned requirements. In this respect, the aims of Social Sciences University of Ankara - Turkish Teaching Application and Research Center are as follows:
- To organize Turkish courses for foreign students who come to Türkiye with scholarship or with their own means to study in departments where the language of instruction is Turkish at Social Sciences University of Ankara,
- Developing and making available qualified teaching materials for use in teaching Turkish to foreigners,
- To organize scientific meetings such as conferences, symposiums, workshops and panels in order to contribute to the academic knowledge regarding the discipline of teaching Turkish to foreigners,
- Developing professional assessment and evaluation tools to be used in teaching Turkish to foreigners,
- Organizing training programs for trainers and opening certificate programs in order to close the gap of qualified experts in the field,
- To organize Turkish for specific-purposes courses in order to meet the academic needs of international students.
